#LifeOfAStudent

What the hell Tharaah where have you been?

For those who don't know, I'm currently studying at UCT. Gosh, it feels so weird saying that I 'matriculated'. And constantly on a mission trying to Google comebacks for: "OMG how are you done with school? You look like you are still in grade 9!".

For my whole high school career, the teachers were always telling us how much more different university is compared to high school. I did what every average teen did and simply ignored all the useless chatter that came from their mouths. Unfortunately, Mr Febs (my ex-physics teacher) was right. Its not only the work that is completely mind blowing, but other social stuff as well. For example:

1)  I knew there would be a bunch of hipsters. But the perspective we have of hipsters in high school is nothing compared to university. Literally, there are levels of hipsterism, if that makes sense. There are those hipsters with those balloon type of pants and the loose sided braid and a 'Make Art Not War' type of T-shirt and they look as if they can go protest anytime, anywhere.
There are those barefooted 'I'm rocking this no-shower-look' hipsters that I might have mistaken for homeless people a few times. There are the punk rock hipsters who claims that they liked Arctic Monkeys 'before it was cool'.  Every second person has their hair dyed a drastic colour. And these are only a few types of the hundreds out there.

2)  There are so many different cultures of people with different backgrounds. Its quite interesting, though. 90% of my new friends are Hindu and most of them aren't from Cape Town. It's amazing to hear their life stories, it opens up my mind so much and I personally think its healthy to listen to other people's life stories, especially for us typical selfish capetonians (I still love all of you).

3)  There are almost NO RULES, you don't HAVE to come to lectures. There's no homework. The freedom is amazing and scary at the same time. There are no bells. It doesn't even feel like you are getting an education because university life is so chilled.

4)  No one judges you. There are people with outfits that show off their ass cheeks, there are people beautifully covered in hijaab and there are the rest that wear pajamas. No matter who you are or all the weird crap you do, you won't be judged. Everyone is too busy with their own lives than to be worrying about how much attention you are getting.

There's so much more differences but I don't have enough capacity to think of any more since I have to practice my computer programming so I won't fail this semester #LifeOfAStudent (I can finally use that hashtag now).
Basically, it's a big step from high school to university and if you don't feel excited, confused, depressed and annoyed, you're doing it wrong!

Catch ya later, losers❤

P.S I have officially capitalized my 'R' in my name. I could've done this years ago because now everyone is pronouncing my name more correctly!!! Yay!!
