Finding My Style

Whenever I get asked this question (hardly ever) about who inspires me fashion-wise, I simply cannot answer it. I'm not a believer in that you have one person that you get all your fashion inspiration from and love everything about their style.

What I do is, I get inspiration from aspects of other influencer's style or clothing and interpret it into my own style.

Just like my personality, I go through phases of what I love and don't love when it comes to fashion. If I could describe my style in 3 words it would be: Comfortable, Monochromatic (well, at the moment) and Experimental.

I always used to stay away from popular trends. It was always so stressful watching everyone wear exactly the same thing, in the same way. It was like uniform. Everyone owning the same pair of Adidas and wearing it the same time. Nah bro, miss me with that,

But, nowadays, I LOVE trends. I think I've found a way to use the popular trends and pair it with items and make it more to suit my style, rather than annoyingly conform to every single trendy Instagram Cape Town girl.

What I love doing, is taking basic clothing items such as plain white tees (my go-to) and basic denims and putting outfits together that don't look basic. I used to always be into statement pieces but now I'm loving versatile everyday pieces and styling them differently.

My main inspiration in styling outfits is quite weird: what I do is, I go on Pinterest and search for Fashion Week Street Style, my favourites are in London and Paris. I find it amazing how fashionistas take weird non-everyday pieces and style it in a way that's just so different and high fashion and wow I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it!

MY LOOKBOOK:

For my little lookbook I've done, I put together 5 different outfits which in a nutshell describe the vibe of my style for 2017 going into 2018.

OUTFIT 1:

This first outfit actually gave me the idea of shooting this look in a tennis court as it seems very tennis court inspired. This cullote is my favourite most comfortable item to wear this summer and it looks so effortless but stylish at the same time. I'm not a big fan of skinny jeans and this is a good replacement that goes with literally anything.

When the trend of fishnet stockings came in I was like DUDE I need to hop on this trend. It looks so good with ripped jeans and I'm really into layering it under pants like how I did in this look.

T-shirt // Refinery
Cap // (I actually have no idea I found it in my room)
Pants // (Made by Me)
Fishnet Stockings // Almost Famous
Vans // Superbalist

OUTFIT 2:

This outfit I wore recently to an event and I fell in love with it. I'm really digging white shirts that are tied loosely with denim jeans, and I'm loving the distressed bottom of the jeans and the fact that it's cropped so you can see the layering of the socks and fishnets.

Shirt // Edgars
Jeans // Factorie
Fishnet Stockings // Almost Famous
Socks // Cotton On
Boots // Shado

OUTFIT 3, 4 & 5:

In a nutshell, you can see the similar vibes these outfits give off and it's totally what I have been loving these days. I'm so glad that I have stumbled upon this world of fashion and so excited to spend time expressing myself through it.
